State Sen. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) issued the following statement following Gov. Bruce Rauner’s annual “State of the State” address on January 31.
“While the budget impasse is behind us, Governor Rauner emphasized that we will again place our focus on passing a truly balanced budget with critical reforms to stimulate economic growth and create jobs. After July, taxpayers were left with a significant income tax hike despite my and many of my colleagues’ opposition. It is time we lighten the tremendous burden on taxpayers and implement a plan for real long-term property tax relief.
As for my district-wide priorities, I plan to focus on school funding reform, transportation and infrastructural improvements, as well as services for our veterans and most vulnerable residents. I agree with the Governor’s message about the importance of bipartisanship. We all have a common goal to rebuild our economy and care for our residents—and that will require compromise from both sides of the aisle.”
