Senator Tracy sworn in to 101st General Assembly

Re-elected by the constituents of the 47th District and recently named Senate Minority Whip, State Sen. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) was sworn in to the 101st General Assembly on Inauguration Day, Jan. 9 in the Illinois Capitol.

I am honored and humbled to be re-elected to serve my home of the 47th District,” said Tracy. “Interacting with constituents and local businesses has entirely guided my legislative priorities for the new year. Economic Development will need to take precedent if we want to see our businesses grow and create jobs, which at the state level, means passing significant workers comp reform and reducing the regulative strains on the employers. I’m also eager to work with the new administration to effectively fund our public universities and improve college affordability—so our students no longer feel financially pressured to seek an out-of-state education. Especially vital to our district, a top priority of mine will be to work with the Governor to create a capital program to fund much-needed infrastructural improvements for our roads, bridges and transportation systems.”

Tracy was sworn in to first Senate term at the 100th General Assembly Inauguration in 2017. Since joining the Senate, she has taken the lead on crucial issues, including agricultural industry improvements, school funding reform, veterans’ issues, legislative ethics, and the reporting of sexual assault and harassment.

Notably, Tracy emerged as a key government advocate for the patient care and safety of the residents of Quincy Veterans’ Home. She partnered with state and local government officials and agencies to eradicate the traces of legionella and helped to secure the vital capital funding to renovate the campus as soon as possible with limited disturbance to its residents. The capital program has moved forward and Tracy hopes the new Governor Administration will continue to prioritize the veterans’ home and maintain the renovation schedule.

“Since the capital improvements have begun at the Quincy Veterans’ Home, we are seeing tremendous progress in the structures and such a positive response from our veterans,” said Tracy. “I continue to closely monitor the process and I hope to meet with Governor-Elect Pritzker very soon to ensure the renovations stay on track and the residents’ health and comfort are protected.”

Following Inauguration, Tracy stood up to present her nomination for Bill Brady’s re-appointment to Senate Republican Leader, applauding his strong representation of central and downstate Illinois, proven bipartisanship and proactive legislative agenda.
