Sen. Tracy’s Statement on Cannabis Vote

On Wednesday, May 29th, the Senate passed House Bill 1438, a controversial proposal to legalize the recreational use of marijuana. State Senator Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) issued the following statement on the proposal:

“Legalizing the recreational use of cannabis will lead to increased use, will decrease safety on our roads and sends the wrong message to our children. Additionally, cannabis is still a schedule I controlled substance and remains illegal under federal law. This is not the right time to take this drastic step at the state level. I voted no.”

House Bill 1438 passed the Senate and will move back to the House for further consideration.
