Illinois first state to ratify 13th Amendment!

February 1 marks the day that Illinois ratified the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which abolished slavery in the United States.

The Amendment was signed on January 31, 1865, and Illinois became the first state to ratify it the following day, February 1, 1865!
