The Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) has presented State Sen. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) with its Outstanding Legislator of the Year Award for her commitment to advancing park and recreational opportunities for Illinois citizens.
“During her many years of service in the General Assembly – first as a member of the House of Representatives and now in the Senate, Jil Tracy has been an advocate of local government. Time and again, she has been willing to speak out to defend local control,” said Peter Murphy, IAPD President and Chief Executive Officer. “For her remarkable dedication and support, we are pleased to honor Senator Jil Tracy with the Illinois Association of Park Districts’ Outstanding Legislator of the Year Award.”
Murphy noted that in 2019, Sen. Tracy sponsored House Bill 2081, which provides for the continuation of staggered terms for park boards when terms are reduced from six years to four years on a seven-member board. She has also served on many Senate Committees that impact IAPD member agencies. Murphy said Sen. Tracy has participated in the Legislative Panel at the IAPD Legislative Conference and is responsive to IAPD questions and concerns.
“With so many outdoor and indoor resources that reflect the recreational and educational interests of local residents, park districts are significant factors in what make our communities great places to live and work,” Tracy said. “Access to recreational facilities is good for physical and mental health. These resources improve family time and make an impact on economic development in a community. It’s an honor for IAPD to recognize my support of these very important local government systems.”
