State Senator Jil Tracy recognized the outstanding achievements of student athletes from Brown County Community Unit School District No. 1 on Wednesday in the Illinois Senate.
“As a mother of four former Brown County student athletes, I know firsthand the pride and dedication that come from this community,” said Senator Tracy. “These student athletes have demonstrated incredible teamwork, commitment, and school spirit.”
Senator Tracy highlighted an exceptional year in Brown County athletics. The Brown County High School football team finished the season with an 11 to 3 record and earned second place in its first state championship appearance.
She also recognized the varsity girls basketball team, which finished third in the state, adding to an already impressive year for the district.
In addition, the 7th grade girls basketball team completed a perfect 26 to 0 season for the second consecutive year and secured a state championship victory over Manlius Bureau Valley Junior High.
The 8th grade girls basketball team finished with a 25 to 2 record and earned a second place finish after a competitive state championship game against Springfield Christian.
“I was proud to recognize their accomplishments and welcome them to the Senate,” said Senator Tracy, who also acknowledged the coaches, families, and school leaders who supported the students throughout their successful seasons.
Following the students’ recognition, Senator Tracy hosted the staff and students for a pizza party at the Capitol.
