Senate Republican Leader Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) announced on Monday that he is appointing State Senator Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) and four other Senate Republican members to serve on the newly created Senate Task Force on Sexual Discrimination and Harassment Awareness and Prevention.

“Sexual harassment should not be tolerated in the workplace and in any venue,” said Tracy. “I believe as legislators we should be leaders in working to combat this injustice. I’m honored Leader Brady has granted me the opportunity to be at the forefront of these discussions and solutions.”

The goal of the new task force will be to conduct a comprehensive review of legal and social consequences of sexual discrimination and harassment in both the public and private sectors. The task force will study and make recommendations on combating sexual discrimination and harassment in workplaces, educational institutions, and in state and local government.

“This is an important first step in changing the culture in the Capitol,” said Brady. “I applaud Senator Tracy for stepping up to the challenge, and channeling her passion for women’s issues and public service to better protect women in Illinois in and out of the office.”

Tracy will serve alongside State Senators Pam Althoff (R-McHenry), Karen McConnaughay (R-St. Charles), John Curran (R-Downers Grove) and Dale Righter (R-Mattoon). Brady will also appoint seven additional members, including representatives from advocacy groups.

Members of the task force will not receive compensation for their service.
