Norovirus Outbreak At Illinois Veterans’ Home In Quincy Over

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is reporting that the norovirus outbreak at the Illinois Veterans’ Home in Quincy last month is over.  Approximately 20 individuals experienced symptoms for a few days.

IDPH found no indication the outbreak was due to kitchen operations upon inspection.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are approximately 19-21 million cases of norovirus each year nationally.  In 2017, there were approximately 215 separate norovirus outbreaks in Illinois.  The majority of those outbreaks occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities.  Health care facilities are the most commonly reported settings for norovirus cases in the United States because of increased person-to-person contact.

Most people with norovirus get better within one to three days.
