Governor J.B. Pritzker announced Wednesday afternoon (March 25) that the state is extending the income tax filing and payment deadline by three months, from April 15 to July 15.
The Department of Revenue (IDOR) will continue to process tax refunds for those filing ahead of the new deadline.

The Senate Republican Caucus had sent the letter below to Governor J.B. Pritzker asking that he extend the State’s income tax filing deadline to bring it in line with the new Federal deadline of July 15.
Having two different filing deadlines was a hardship and very impractical for Illinoisans to file a state income tax return on April 15 and then a federal income tax return on July 15.
As noted in our letter to Governor Pritzker, delaying the state income tax return to July 15 will help residents maintain the recommended social-distancing practices while also providing some liquidity to those who need it most.
This simple act will make a big difference in the lives of residents throughout Illinois.
