The Illinois Attorney General’s Office recently announced the successful launch of a new online reporting system for charitable organizations and trustees, an initiative led by Senator Jil Tracy through Senate Bill 1599.
“Many charitable organizations operate with limited staff and often struggle to meet filing deadlines, which can lead to costly fines,” said Senator Tracy. “This new electronic filing system provides a faster, more accessible, and reliable way to submit reports on time. It’s a proven approach already in use in other states and represents a natural step forward for Illinois.”
The push to streamline online filing began as a constituent request to Senator Tracy. The bill passed unanimously in the Senate in April but stalled in the House due to implementation timing concerns.
Recently, the Illinois Attorney General’s Office developed an online reporting platform with the hopes to simplify reporting, reduce administrative burdens, minimize errors, and help nonprofits across Illinois stay in compliance with state requirements.
