Following the Governor’s press conference on the second day of July special session calling for Senate President Cullerton to release Senate Bill 1, State Senator Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) released the following statement in support of the Governor’s demands.
“We are all here in Springfield for special session to resolve this statewide school funding issue; yet the one item we need to really begin work on is Senate Bill 1—which is currently being held hostage by President Cullerton with influence from Speaker Madigan,” said Tracy. “They need to release SB 1 now so we can continue the constitutional legislative process that we promised to uphold when we were sworn into office, and that process is currently being violated. We can’t begin the work to fund schools until the bill is released by Cullerton. I’m ready to do the work we came here to do and get our schools fully funded for the new school year next month. We simply need the bill to be released.”
