Sen. Tracy supports lawsuit challenging Democrat leaders’ unconstitutional practices

SPRINGFIELD – State Sen. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) is supporting a lawsuit filed in Sangamon County Court by Illinois Republican legislators to challenge the General Assembly Democratic leaders’ blatant disregard of a legislative rule in the Illinois State Constitution.

The Three Readings Rule in the Illinois Constitution is intended to ensure sufficient time for lawmakers and their constituents to analyze legislative proposals.

“Bills are supposed to be read in the Senate and House three times on three different days; however, Democrats have repeatedly subverted the Constitution to rush bills through without proper review,” Tracy said. “This lawsuit is a strong message that Republican leaders are fighting for transparency and adherence to our Constitution.”

The Republicans’ lawsuit outlines the Democrat Super Majority’s move to pass Senate Bill 328 despite The Three Readings Rule legislative process not being followed correctly.

Senate Bill 328 creates imminent harm for Illinoisans by exposing the legal process to increased abuse by trial lawyers, and it would have an extremely harmful effect on the state’s jobs climate.
